Google Ads in Gmail

It’s been a while since Google has inroduced what they call web clips and what I’d call either RSS reader combined with Google ads or an extension of Google personalized home page in Gmail. What’s always been making me wonder there is how well they actualy target their ads in those web clips – so much unlike our regular AdSense pages…. Say you have an email in Gmail talking about college – and immediately, first time you view it, there’s an ad for college-related stuff, and so on. So clearly, the mechanism they use for targeting those ads is much more advanced than for normal AdSense ads for your regular publisher (what’s the coversion rate for those clip-based ads is another question, but we’re not going there now). Now, I can’t help wondering whether it’s just an example of Google treating itself betetr than others, pre-reading your emails or testing something new to be implemented elsewhere later on?

  1. Well they are pre-reading our emails…. but definitely they are using
    a faster engine.
In fact, it’s funny that while we’re using Gmail we’re testing all the beta engines and improvements that Google will use in their other applications…
